Intervention and Resources

At St. Matthew's we offer a wide range of interventions to support SEND pupils. The level and type of intervention implemented to support a pupil is dependent upon their individual need and circumstance. At St Matthew's we use ongoing assessment to inform provision for SEND pupils and we ensure that interventions target specific gaps in pupils understanding of a subject/area of learning.

At St Matthew's we also use a 'Waves of Intervention' approach in identifying and implementing the most appropriate level of support for a pupil.

Wave 1 - Quality first teaching.

This provision is for all pupils.

Wave 2 - Enhanced group support

This level of support is provided for those pupils working just below age related expectations who require ‘catch up’ strategies and are not necessarily identified as SEND.

Wave 3 - Additional SEND support

This level of support is provided the pupils who despite accessing Wave 2 interventions require further support.

This level of support is also provided those pupils where Wave 2 support is not appropriate due to specific individual needs.
