St Matthew's C.E Primary School

“I can do all things because Christ gives me strength” Philippians 4:13

Our learning this half term will all be focused around our topic 'Make do and mend' This is a DT unit in which we will learn a range of simple sewing stitches, including ways of recycling and repurposing old clothes and materials.

Here are some examples of the sewing and pin cushions we made:

Also check out the fun from our 'make do and mend' fashion show...

Reading and Writing- This half term we will be continuing to read the book 'Goodnight Mr Tom' by Michelle Magorian. We are looking forward to seeing how Mr Tom is still growing and developing as a person and can't wait to find out if Willie is allowed to stay living with him.

Maths- We will be studying how to calculate the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes as well as studying fractions and how to find the quantities of an amount.

World Book Day

Today we had an AMAZING day celebrating World Book day! We designed our own blurbs and front covers for our very own narratives or created a new version of our favourite stories so they could be re-published and become timeless classics.

Look at our fabulous costumes below!

We also participated and took part in  ‘Storytime with Michael Morpurgo' and listened to him read his new £1 World Book Day book, Jemima the Pig and the 127 Acorns. He took part in a live 'TEAMS stream' and shared his knowledge on how to be an author and the importance of reading.
