“I can do all things because Christ gives me strength” Philippians 4:13

Summer 2

English/Reading:

During this half term we will be writing a narrative using George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl as inspiration. We are also have a big focus on handwriting so that all the children are ready for Year 3. We will be continuing to use VIPERS to understand what we have read and become confident in inference and sequencing skills. Alongside this, we will also continue to look at some of the Year 2 punctuation and grammar, such as different sentence types, word classes (noun, adjective, verb and adverb) and extending our sentences using conjunctions (so, and, but, or, because).

Maths:

We will be focusing on length and height, position and direction and time this half term. The children will have the opportunity to participate in practical lessons where they will measure different objects around the classroom and create mazes for their peers to follow directions to complete. We will also be looking at word and missing number problems to help us with our reasoning and problem solving. Each Friday, we will also practice our arithmetic skills and our times tables.

Science:

This topic is called the apprentice gardener. This half term the children will grow broad beans at different depths in the soil to investigate whether this affects the plants growth. Each week we will look at the beans and record any changes inside a bean diary. While the seeds are growing we will explore the life cycle of a plant and dissect the seeds to see what is inside.

Special Studies:

Our Geography topic this half term is 'Lets Explore the World!'. We will be using an atlas to look at the different continents, seas and oceans around the world. The children will also be using an atlas to research the physical characteristics of the UK. We will then compare these physical characteristics to other countries and see if we can find similarities and differences.
