Nursery – Saint Matthew

Welcome to the information page for Nursery

Welcome to Nursery! Your child is in for an exciting year full of fun, discovery, and new learning adventures. Within Early Years we learn predominantly through play along with adult focused activities both inside and outside whatever the weather!

These pages will keep you updated with all the key information you will need to support their journey and stay connected with what is happening in their class.

Our class is named after Saint Matthew

Did you know...?

* Saint Matthew is named in the New Testament as one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.

* According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist.

* Matthew was a tax collector and is therefore the patron saint of bankers. The Church established St. Matthew's feast day as September 21.

Attendance

Good attendance is key to your child's routine, learning, progress and well-being. Please ensure that your child is in class everyday.

Timings for Nursery are as follows:

Morning Nursery: 8.40am-11.40am

Afternoon Nursery: 12.15pm-3.15pm

30 Hours Nursery: 8.40am-3.15pm

Please bring and collect your children from the Nursery classroom door.

Reading

In Nursery, the children will take part in a Library session every Friday. During this session they will choose a book to bring home and share with you at home. The aim of these books is to develop the children's love of books and reading, start to talk about stories that they are listening to and answer questions. Please speak to the Early Years Lead, Miss Booles or the Nursery staff if you have any questions regarding our library sessions.

Homework

All children have been given a homework book. Homework is given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday at the latest. The homework sheets detail the learning your child has done that week along with how you could support your child further at home. If you have any queries regarding the homework, please do not hesitate to email us as we will ensure they receive help with the activities set.

Our Class Bears

Nursery have two bears that will be going home every weekend with someone from the morning or afternoon nursery. Each bear comes with a bag containing a game or jigsaw, picture books, a toothbrush and a home diary to record what they do over the weekend. The children then share these with the class when they return on the Monday.

Wild Tribe

Nursery will be taking part in Wild Tribe sessions weekly once they have all settled in. These are led by Miss Booles who is a fully trained Wild Tribe practitioner. Within these sessions the children learn about nature, explore the great outdoors, use tools, enjoy fires and climb trees amongst many other fun activities.

Water

We encourage our children to stay hydrated throughout the day and welcome water bottles to be brought in. Please ensure the bottle is labelled with their name/initials and only contains water.

Read, Write Inc

To support us with our Phonics and Reading we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme to teach phonics, below are some useful links for parents. Nursery children experience lots of phonic games during their time in Nursery. During the term before they start Reception they start to do more formal RWI sessions to help with their transition to Reception.
