Summer 2
In Summer 2, we will be focussing on our DT topic which is called Scream Machine. The children will be designing and creating their own fairground ride, using different tools and equipment. The children will also investigate different mechanisms, such as spinning mechanisms.
In English, we will be linking our writing to the book, The Queen of the Falls. This book is fictional story about a school teacher who has the idea of going down Niagara Falls in a wooden barrel. We will use the story to write a diary extract and a piece of discursive writing. We will then finish the term with a unit of poetry.
In reading, we will be exploring the same book, and will be using our VIPERS reading skills. In particular, we will be continuing to use our inference skills to discuss how characters are feeling throughout the story.
In maths, we will finish looking at multiplication and division as the Year 4 children complete their end of year, multiplication check. We will then finish the year by spending some time looking at geometry and statistics.
In RE, we will be looking at the question 'What can we learn from a Mandir?' This will consist of looking at Hinduism, learning about their beliefs and their places of worship.
In Science, we will be exploring evolution and inheritance. This will involve investigating how and why living things adapt to their environment, as well as the traits that we inherit from our parents.
In PE, the children will be continuing with swimming and will start cricket sessions with a cricket coach.
