“I can do all things because Christ gives me strength” Philippians 4:13

Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed your half term break.

Please can I remind you, Children need to come in their PE kits on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, it is very important that children are encouraged to read at home to a parent, carer or sibling. This will support them in their upcoming phonics screening test.

Homework:

Homework will be set each week. This will alternate between English reading, maths and English grammar. This will either be completed in reading journals, homework books or on PurpleMash. Below are some images of outstanding reading journals

English:

In our writing and reading lessons we will be looking at the following books. Within reading, we use our VIPERS skills to answer questions based on the text given. In writing, we will be looking at sentence construction and improving them to make them even better.

Special Studies:
This term our focus is Design and Technology. Continuing narratives based on space in English we will be designing our own space buggy.
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. As a class, we will design, make and evaluate our space buggy product alongside learning key vocabulary such as wheels, axles and chassis.

Maths:
Year 1: Weight and Mass
Year 2: 2D and 3D Shapes.

Science- Growing Up:
In science this term children consider the basic needs of humans for survival (food, water, air), the need for warmth and shelter, and additional needs for health and wellbeing. Children identify simple differences between living and non-living things, and they are introduced to the sequence of the human life cycle, first through considering how they have changed since birth. Children with younger siblings will draw on their own experiences and may sometimes take on the role of ‘expert’. They then research further changes that happen as a human baby grows and develops into and through adulthood.

5.4.22 Maths Fun Day

Today we have been learning about money. In groups we sorted the coins into different groups like colour, size and shape. Our train tickets were £1 so we needed to combine a variety of coins to make the total. This afternoon, we went on a great treasure hunt and we had to answer the maths based questions to get the next clue. On the KS2 playground Daniel found the treasure! We came back and had our beach party. We were each given an amount and we all needed to pay for each item using correct coins or combination of coins. We've had an awesome, fantastic day and we have learned lots of new things.
